This weekend we welcome our twinning visitors from Guyancourt - the party will arrive on Saturday, when there will be an evening function in the club.  There will be a friendly match on Sunday morning, KO 10am, with a Linlithgow Select taking on AS Minorange from Guyancourt, before most people head through to Murrayfield for Sunday's Scotland v France match.  Our visitors will depart on Monday.

Reds Get Stuck in the Mud at Langholm!

Russell Murdoch in the mud at Langholm

Langholm  13 - 0  Linlithgow

Saturday 18th February 2012

As mud spa treatments go, this was up with the best!  However, this was at the expense of rugby, as the standby pitch at Langholm very quickly turned from grass to a quagmire.  Langholm, with the wind at their backs, had ground out a 13 point lead by half-time, and as ground conditions became farcical were able to hold out in a pointless second-half.

No Matches for either 2s or 3s as Haddington and Trinity Call Off

Unfortunately, the weekend report is rather bare, as both Haddington 2s and Trinity Accies 2s were unable to raise teams to travel to Linlithgow - so neither the 2s nor the 3s had games on Saturday.  In contrast, the Reds match did go ahead on a surface that quickly turned into a quagmire at Langholm - with play more or less grinding to a halt in the second half!

Great Effort But Only a Valiant Defeat for u16s at Peebles

Last night's Brewin Dolphin u16 Plate semi-final was won 22-0 by the home side, Peebles High School, in a match played under the lights at Peebles RFC.  The scoreline did not do justice to the young Reds who gave their all, but fell just short.  A valiant effort and well done to the team for progressing so far in the tournament!

Action from BD semi-finalLinlithgow Academy u18  10 - 17  Carrick Academy u18

Thursday 9th February 2012

Congratulations to Carrick Academy who deservedly won a hard fought and close match at Mains Park on Thursday.  Up 10-5 (try from Stuart Mitchell and penalty and conversion from Gary Ballantyne) late in the first half, Linlithgow conceded a converted try in the last minute to go into the break 12-10 down.  Despite huge pressure, with the Reds camped on the Carrick line for about 15 minutes, Linlithgow couldn't add to their score.  Having withstood the immense pressure, Carrick then turned the tables and for 10 minutes they put pressure on the Linlithgow line.

Gary Ballantyne kicks at goalSomething had to give and, with just over 5 minutes to go, Carrick claimed an unconverted try in the corner to make the final score 17-10.  Well done to both sides and good luck to Carrick in the final.

Capturing photo action from the biggest game of the season played at Mains Park, were official Club photographer John Preece and unofficial club photographer and travelling supporter Graham Black.  A big thanks to both of them for once again some excellent photographs.

Reds Away at Langholm on Saturday

The Reds travel down to Langholm in this weekend's National 1 return fixture.  The postponed matches have now been rescheduled and the Reds will now entertain Garnock on 31st March and Kilmarnock two weeks later on the 14th April.

Connall and Logan Black

It seems like a long time ago now, but the Reds last match was up at Ellon, where brothers Connall and Logan Black both started for the first time for the Reds.  It was a much improved performance with the Reds only conceding one try on a cold and wind-swept day in the north-east.

Previous Youth Matches

Boroughmuir HS  10  Linlithgow Academy  12

Saturday 14th January 2012

A great result for the young Reds as they claimed an excellent victory away at Meggetland.  Lewis Herdman capped a fine debut with a try in the first half converted by Gary Ballantyne.  Lewis has only just become eligible for selection to the u18s.  Daniel Walkinshaw scored the other points with a fine try in the second half.

Linlithgow Academy S2s recorded back-to-back wins with a fine 14 try performance to overwhelm Boroughmuir 56-3.  This comes on the back of their pre-Christmas away victory at Madras.  Significantly, this was only the second time this season that the S2s have been able to field 15 S2 players, having previously had to rely on younger (age qualified) S3s to top up the team.  A great start to 2012!

The S1s, meantime, had a tough match, being beaten 16-5 by their Boroughmuir counterparts, while the S3s came up against a largely u16 side and, not surprisingly, finished on the losing side.

Results: 18th February

Langholm 13 - 0 Linlithgow

Livingston 10 - 47 RHC

Ellon 3 - 45 Hawick YM

Garnock 3 - 31 Murrayfield Wanderers

Kilmarnock 13 - 33 Musselburgh

Dunfermline 54 -21 EU Blues

Once again the top four teams all had good wins - the most notable being Musselburgh's bonus point away win at Kilmarnock. The strength in depth at Musselburgh was demonstrated on Saturday, when their 2s defeated West of Scotland 2s 17-3 at Pinkie in a match refereed by the webmaster.
